Overview

El Taco Feliz stands as a vibrant gem in Martindale, Texas, delivering authentic Mexican flavors that reflect the heart of traditional street food. Located at 408 Lockhart St, this unassuming spot attracts a loyal following, seeking bold, flavorful dishes crafted with care. The charm of El Taco Feliz lies in its ability to balance simplicity with rich culinary heritage, especially evident in menu highlights like the chicharrones and chile colorado.

The chicharrones offer a crispy, savory experience that pairs beautifully with fresh salsas, themselves often praised for their heat and depth. Chile colorado, a standout plate, features tender beef bathed in a robust red chili sauce, crowned with fresh onions, crumbled cheese, and a drizzle of crema—exemplifying the depth and warmth that Mexican cuisine is known for. These dishes speak to those who crave comfort food steeped in tradition.

El Taco Feliz covers all meal times with a broad array of tacos. Their lunch tacos are notably generous in size, served on freshly made corn or flour tortillas that customers have recognized as homemade. Whether it's tender carnitas topped with crisp lettuce and tomatoes or slow-cooked barbacoa seasoned with traditional herbs, each taco provides an authentic taste of Mexican street fare. Breakfast tacos, too, shine here, from classic potato and egg combinations to more vibrant preparations like huevos a la Mexicana, where the heat of jalapeños complements the softness of freshly scrambled eggs.

The experience at El Taco Feliz extends beyond the food. Customers often remark on the warmth and friendliness of the staff, which enhances the authentic, welcoming atmosphere. The space itself is modest—a food truck with plans for a permanent restaurant—which adds to the charm but sometimes presents challenges, like parking. The bustling, lively environment makes it clear this is a place for locals and travelers alike who hunger for genuine, accessible Mexican cuisine.

El Taco Feliz targets those who appreciate honest, hearty meals that don't fancy frills but deliver on flavor and tradition. Whether you're on a road trip craving substantial, satisfying tacos or a local looking for a dependable spot to enjoy homemade-style Mexican plates, this brand welcomes all. It's a place where the essence of Mexican street food shines through in every bite, wrapped in tortillas made with care and served with a side of community spirit.

I can tell the tortillas are homemade! They use good cheese on their tacos as well. I think they do their own pinto beans, too. They had good flavor, and I could taste some good peppers or something! ^w^ They also make their egg tacos hot and fresh.

Hands down, this is my favorite taco cart around. I have never had crunched up egg shells in my tacos as I have had in Lockhart. They also serve the taquitos we used to call street tacos. Depends who is cooking though, that's my only complaint it is not always consistent with portion or what they come with. Very cheap to eat here and great variety. Parking can be a challenge.

It doesn't look like much of a place BUT the lady there was very nice and she was consistently busy with customers. I ordered 2 picadillo tacos, a chicken fajita taco, and chicken quesadillas. Everything was very very delicious. The salsa was super spicy but I liked it. The only complaint I have is that it was all a little greasy. Don't get me wrong, I love a little bit of greasy but it wasn't something that you could easily eat in the car. Otherwise, this place is great.

Super yummy! The breakfast tacos are a normal size on homemade tortillas that are a little thicker. The ingredients are simple but had lots of flavor. Both the red and green salsas were wonderful and not too spicy. The service was friendly and relatively fast. Great prices as well. I’m definitely visiting this taco trailer again.
